16:01  - From Newport
Among the last day dramas is the retirement of Penny Mallory and Jason Dawe with a broken drive shaft on the MG ZR. Jeremy and James Crook retired their Peugeot 106 with a broken gearbox in Hafren. Martin Clark and Bob Rutherford required some chain and ratchet straps to refix the sump shield but have made it to the finish in tenth spot.
11:33  - From Halfway Forest
Halfway 2 has just been complete with 76 cars coming through. Showing that the overnight leader is not taking it easy Owen Turner has the only sub 4 minute run on 3m56s. The sweep mechanics have pulled out the Rover 25 of Stephen Wright & David Leader suffering no apparent damage. Penny Mallory seems to be getting into her stride and is now running in about 30th place. The Mini of David Walker and Gary Watson has retired here with overheating problems.

02:45  - From Llandrindod Wells
The service park will soon be closed but still being worked on is a crowd favourite... the extraordinary sounding Wartburg 353 of Tom Leeming and Kevin Clark. For those not familiar with this model car it is a three cylinder 991cc two-stroke having a separate ignition coil for each cylinder, and probably many other unique features. Tom and Kevin have been driving with total commitment for the last two days with the engine held in by a combination of ratchet tie-down strap and wooden blocks.
02:05  - From Llandrindod Wells
This event really is like the RAC rallies of old with competitors working frantically in the early hours to try and get their cars to the Newport finish tomorrow. Penny Mallory is among the many getting stuck into changing wheels while the tyre service van is at its busiest since the start of the event. Consider yourself lucky if you’ve only had a single puncture…. several crews have suffered two or even three flats during the evening as the sheer distance takes it’s toll.... and Frank Fennell has had to retire his Rover 25 after collecting four punctures.
01:45  - From Llandrindod Wells
Carl Hawkins and Iain Tullie were among several to suffer at the Tarrenig ford where they hydrauliced the engine of their already sick sounding Nova. Charlie & Faye Campey also had their run come to an end at the ford suspecting a failed crankshaft sensor without them having a spare. Jonathan Soames-Waring and Stephen Hodge only have 3rd and 4th gear in the Corsa but hope to reach the finish.
Sunday, 00:54  - From Llandrindod Wells
Furthest off award so far goes to the MG ZR crew of Lombard employees Tom O'Connor and Terry Rooney who had been doing exceptionally well on their first ever rally running in 24th place when last classified. Anyway, their luck ran out on Betws y Coed and they ended up 40ft down the bank requiring to combined efforts of three 4-wheel drives to pull them out. They are now back in Llandrindod Wells eagre to fix the lights and front bumper in time for tomorrow’s run to the finish. Robert Reynolds and Ian Collings - Rover 200 - have retired with electrical problems. Clive Martin / Kim Eaton – Renault Clio – are out with engine problems. Also having electrical trouble is the number 1 Rover 200 of Matthew Fowle and Mark Appleton but they have just arrived back in Llandrindod with the problem sorted and hope not to have lost any time.
18:40  - From Anglesey Race Circuit
Paul Flinders and Deb Flinders have retired their Suzuki Swift with engine problems and Steve McIlroy and Steve Smallbone, Peugeot 106, have retired with a blown clutch. Stephen Millener and Simon Prior are back in the rally with a 'new' scrap yard carburettor although nursing a damaged bumper thanks to Myherin.
18:30  - Top 20 at Anglesey Circuit - (revised 19:00 after first 60 cars to arrive)

18:20  - From Anglesey Race Circuit
The circuit selectif is proving very difficult for crews to find their way around… a totally black night, on wide black tarmac, with chicanes marked by black tyres… But the more usual event comments include…. “all the forest selectifs are totally awesome”…. “very slippy in places”.… “more sideways than straight. Rock on!”.… “the marshals are great.… much appreciated”….

Carl Hawkins and Iain Tullie looking for the way around Anglesey Circuit.

17:35  - From Anglesey Race Circuit
The leading cars are now on their first run of the Anglesey circuit before a short service period and a well earned rest and food break before starting the return to Llandrindod. Jamie Owen confirms that he was off but in Myherin and that it lost him about 5½ minutes. There is talk that the Hawkins / Tullie Nova has engine problems and the loud rattle heard at the end of the selectif here does indicate that all is not 100%…. they did not appear to be slowing any.
16:45  - From Anglesey Race Circuit
The Anglesey Circuit is ready for the arrival of Lombard Rally…. As we approached Anglesey from a rain soaked mid Wales the sun burst through to fool us that the weather may be kind for the rest of the day, but arriving at the circuit everyone has to take care not to get blown away. Your results team cannot use the control tower as planned because of the hazard and the wind turbine is surely going fast enough to power the national grid or more likely it will self destruct. Until the cars arrive there is little news…Evett & Wise reported their Nova still overheating and apologised for not pulling Jamie ‘out’ on Sweet Lamb, but whether, or how far, Jamie was really ‘in’ on Sweet Lamb we don’t know.
It's great to get into Esgair Dafydd and remember why you love rallying..
Penny Mallory - MG ZR
12:45  - From Hafod Hotel - Devil's Bridge
As we pack up shop at Devil’s Bridge the general feeling is fairly quiet with many crews not saying too much and looking somewhat tired… the faces revived somewhat after coffee and sandwiches. It must be the thought of how far there is to go. Happily there are very few reports of mechanical dramas although Neil Wilson and John Buffum have retired the Ford Puma with a failed head gasket. It will likely be quite a while before the next batch of news reports as the results team are moving on to Anglesey.

Andrew Lees and Simon Lassam take to the air in their Nova

Saturday, 10:45  - From Hafod Hotel - Devil's Bridge
It has already been a busy morning on what will probably be the longest day of rallying that most crews have ever tackled. The final control back in Llandrindod Wells does not close until 3am tomorrow morning. At this early stage the first cars arriving at the Hafod Hotel have already tackled eight selectifs including three over Epynt, The Warren, Mabion’s Way & Flag Severn, then three forests, Halfway, Esgair Dafydd and Tywi. As the results begin to emerge we will post them here as soon as we can. Early messages received this morning include…. Mike Hart and Polly (Vauxhall Corsa) “We are out on 5.3 (Halfway)... n.s.f. front wheel has fallen off”….this after they reported doing all day yesterday with no handbrake and having two punctures.. They were hoping for a better day today.

23:04  - From Llandrindod Wells
It appears that the Turner brothers were among a group of cars held up at a blockage in Bron Helm forest. With this and several other possible delays to cars there are likely to be further changes to the leader board before the true position at the end of Day Two is established. Paul Cunningham and Ian Perry are now here having fixed the wheel bearing that was causing them concern in Llandovery. Andy Glossop is reported "well off" in Pwll Bo as are a couple of other cars as yet unidentified until we hear from the rescue crews.
21:46  - From Llandrindod Wells
It’s a busy time at the Rock Park in Llandrindod Wells as the crews try to restore the ravages of their first full day of the 2007 Lombard Rally including eight forest selectifs. Unfortunately we won’t be seing the Peugeot 106 of Barry and Paul Marsh. After the successful effort to change the clutch at Llandow earlier in the day the crew obviously found a little too much speed and have rolled the car in Glasfynydd. The car will be going no further on this event. Barry and Paul are none the worse for wear and on their way home. There has just been a 20 minute gap without cars, perhaps caused by Robert Navin and Ian Varney who placed their Nissan Micra in a ditch. The way was not cleared before twenty or so cars were on the scene. Jamie Turner completed the whole of the Abergwesyn navigation section with a rear puncture. It's not yet clear if this cost him time.
19:00  - From Llandovery
Paul Cunningham and Ian Perry have discovered a wrecked wheel bearing on their Peugeot 205 after Llandovery and are limping to Llandrindod to make repairs rather than risk the forests. Ross and Allison Butterworth who were earlier thought to have retired after holing their gearbox in the Malvern Showground are running again after nipping home on an AA wagon to replace the clutch and gearbox…. They are looking forward to tomorrow.

Robert Evett and Richard Wise flagged away by the Mayor of Llandovery

17:40  - From Llandovery
It’s tea time in Llandovery where the Mayor and Town Crier have turned out to flag the cars away from the market square for a further five forest selectifs to be tackled before the cars reach the overnight in Llandrindod Wells later this evening. The leading runners have already survived two forests, Afan Argoed & Glasfynydd before Llandovery, describing the second as perfect although Afan Argoed was a bit rough in parts. Among reports received we hear that the Nova of Robert Evett and Richard Wise is losing water but with no time to change a head gasket they are continuing and filling up after each selectif.. could be a problem in some of the long forests to come. The Peugeot 205 of Stephen Millener and Simon Prior has suffered several breakdowns diagnosed as the carburettor but is said to be going fine again now. Neil Wilson and John Buffum have a holed radiator in the Puma, we are unsure how serious the problem is.

Matthew Fowle makes a very tight Llandow corner a little wider… no he did not have to reverse.

14:20  - From Llandow Circuit
In the Llandow service park the official mechanics have just completed a clutch change on the Peugeot 106 of Barry and Paul Marsh in time for them to complete the two Llandow selectifs. And earlier... Paul Cunningham and Ian Perry - Peugeot 205 - had the exhaust blow badly last night and spent time this morning having it fixed in Malvern. "We stormed through the back markers in Trellach and Chepstow…" their words. We hear that the Peugeot 106 of Ben and Mike Dawson has retired with a blown gearbox.

Peter Barker and Willy Cave arrive at Llandow in their Morris Mini Cooper S

Friday, 11:40  - From Llandow Circuit
As the leading cars begin to arrive for a 1 hour break and service halt at a sunny and bright Llandow circuit they all appear quite relaxed. It seems that quite a few crews had trouble finding the correct route through the Malvern Showground selectif even though the section was run twice. Those losing their way included Robin Eyre-Maunsell & Peter Scott. Mike East and Roger Davidson report a blown differential in their Peugeot 106 and are awaiting a tow at Chepstow Park. "A pity… we’ve enjoyed every minute…" they said. Dave Wright and Lindsey Annison in the lone diesel Golf reckon that as rookies they are learning fast and having a good run. Sometime they may even have to stop for fuel.

Friday, 00:22  - More from the Gloucester Parc Ferme
The MG ZR of Lombard employees Kay Harper and Mary Murrell is receiving some urgent repairs to the lights and off side front wing after slipping into a tree on a leaf covered corner, but the expert official service crews seem to have things well under control. Obviously taking things easy at this early stage the Turner brothers are running 26th and 27th with Jamie just one second ahead of Owen. Penny Mallory and Jason Dawe are probably finding the nature of Endurance rallying somewhat difficult to master having taken a wrong route on one of the Gaydon selectifs then missing a passage check at Silverstone. They have arrived in Gloucester some four minutes behind the leaders crews.

Jamie Turner & Mike Turner on the second Gaydon Selectif

22:20  - From The Gloucester Parc Ferme
As the cars arrive at the Gloucester service park Karl & Frank O'Donoghue are busy changing a drive shaft on their Citroen AX while Phil Bayliss & Andy Wynn have a little more serious drama as the organisers service mechanics try to fix broken gear selectors within the 30 minutes service time allowed. The Corsa reached Gloucester direct from Silverstone driving all the way in third gear but had to miss the evening navigation section. “If we get it fixed, then tomorrow will be a new day” said Phil. The Citroen C2 of Don Kettleborough & Pete Chapman arrived looking very low at the front and making rather ominous mechanical noises diagnosed as the gearbox hitting the sump guard. The exact cause is under investigation. Ben & Mike Dawson are trying to decide whether they need to change a drive shaft after suffering a mysterious loss of drive but as the problem appears to have cleared itself they will probably leave well alone for now.
